AE's Unréal Anthology, 2026 - A first love is a clocktower is a rushing river is a haunting

October 14, 2025

I'm excited to announce that I will part of AE's Unréal Anthology in 2026!

According to AE: This is the first in a series of special AE editions: Unréal, a collection of weird and fantastical tales exploring the past, present, and future of this island we call both Montréal and Tiohtià:ke. Unréal is to be a print and digital anthology, featuring stories in both French and English, in which authors share visions of Montréal as seen through uncommon lenses. This city is an in-between place, a meeting place, a place with incredible history . Unréal will explore what makes Montréal and its diverse residents so unique, so compelling, through short stories in genres ranging from science fiction to urban fantasy to gothic horror.

With the arrival of spring, the North stirs from her slumber. Green shoots aspire anew from soil, songbirds return from unknowable pilgrimages, and we all hope—as we do every year—that no ancient and hungry evil emerges from aeons-long hibernation beneath the ice.
But something has awoken on l’Île de Montréal. You might see it walking the streets of St. Henri with wide-eyed recognition. You might see it perched atop belvédère Kondiaronk, scribbling ciphers into a notebook. And, in the right light, from Parc des Rapides, you might see it haunting the rocky copses of Les Sept-Sœurs, drawing strength from the great rapids that birthed this city.
This thing is not evil. And it is less ancient than it seems. But, make no mistake, it is hungry. It is AE.
